About 10,000 people gathered along the road leading from the airport to the royal palace, to pay their respect. On Wednesday evening, a special lighting ceremony was held in front of the palace to mark the former king's return. The body of Sihanouk will be placed at the royal palace for 3 months, to allow people to pay their respects.

After, the body will be cremated and housed in a pagoda at the royal palace. Wednesday also marked the official start of a week of mourning. During that period, all flags will fly at half mast, and all forms of entertainment will be prohibited in Cambodia.

Meanwhile, officials were eager to talk about how much the former king meant to their country.
