Typhoon Son-Tinh is hitting southern China's Hainan province, bringing rainfalls and gales and affecting traffic.

The China Meteorological Administration said the center of Son-Tinh was 220 kilometers southeast of Sanya on Saturday morning, a city in the south of Hainan. It was moving northwestward at a speed of 20 kilometers per hour.

Local authorities have called ships back and reinforced port facilities. The railway department has taken appropriate measures and warned passengers of the typhoon.

Some flights have also been cancelled or delayed due to the bad weather. Several cities in Hainan have issued an orange rainstorm alert to prevent any disasters caused by Son-Tinh. Impacted by Son-Tinh and a cold front from the north, the southern part of China will be battered with downpours in the next 24 hours.
