Chinese President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao have sent their congratulations respectively to Barack Obama for his victory in the US presidential race.

In his message of congratulations, President Hu Jintao said that bilateral ties between China and the US had seen progress over the past four years due to the joint efforts of both sides. He said that China is willing to work with the US to promote cooperation so as to benefit the peoples of the two countries.

Vice President Xi Jinping also expressed his congratulations to US Vice-President Joe Biden for successfully going on with his second term. Obama has passed the threshold of 270 electoral votes needed to win the presidency, handily beating his Republican challenger Mitt Romney. Democratic Representative Judy Chu said on Tuesday evening that Obama will continue the diplomacy in dealing with China during his second term.
