China opposes Japan's so-called "actual control" of the Diaoyu Islands and their surrounding waters.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei says China has repeated its position regarding the islands during every consultation with Japan. He stressed China's strong opposition to any acts that could undermine its territorial sovereignty.

The spokesman reiterated that the Diaoyu Islands and their affiliated islets have been part of China's territory since ancient times and China holds sovereignty over them. He said the Chinese government will continue to safeguard its state sovereignty and territorial integrity.
