President Hu Jintao and the newly elected Chairman of the CPC Central Military Commission, Xi Jinping, have attended a Central Military Commission meeting held in Beijing. Xi Jinping presided over the first top rank military meeting, following his election on Thursday.

In his speech, Hu Jintao praised Xi Jinping as the qualified General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, and the chairman of the CMC. Xi Jinping said Hu Jintao proposed to retire from his positions in the top posts, on consideration of the development of the whole country. And the proposal was approved at the 18th CPC Congress out of respect to Hu Jintao’s will.

Xi Jinping further urged the military to thoroughly implement the spirit of the 18th National Party Congress, and unswervingly adhere to the absolute leadership of the party. He stressed the importance of achieving all the military tasks, as well as the revolutionized, modernized and standardized building of the military.
