Iran's state media has reported that the country's navy launched two new domestically-built submarines in the southern port of Bandar Abbas.
According to local media, the Ghadir submarine was first unveiled in 2007. Along with the submarines, two hovercraft were launched. They are for rescue and military operations. The official IRNA news agency says the Ghadir class submarines can operate in the Persian Gulf's shallow waters.
They can fire missiles and torpedoes at the same time. Iran seeks to upgrade its air defense systems and naval power, beause of the belief that any possible attacks against Iran would be air and sea-based.
