HK boat show targeting China's rich

While Europe remains stuck in financial crisis, luxury yacht makers are involved in a flourishing amount of projects for China's nouveau riche. At this year's Hong Kong International Boat Show, yacht makers from around the world are grinding it out for a piece of the pie.

It seems the search for flush Chinese shoppers has pried EU manufacturers away from their homeland, and over to China itself. Stefano Luraschi explains for why Chinese shoppers are willing to shell out for European boats.
Stefano Luraschi, manager of Cantiere Nautico Cranchi, said, "People generally would like to have a product which is made in Europe, is willing to spend maybe more, for a boat that is produced in Europe."
Their 2 million US dollar boat is made only for Chinese. Its exterior resembles a golden carp, a fish which symbolizes good fortune in China.
According to the latest Hurun wealth report, the number of Chinese with a fortune above 100 million yuan, or about 66.3 million US dollars, has surpassed 63 thousand, and is growing with a yearly rate of six percent. Among them, 15% have plans to buy pleasure boats.
But dealers say the Chinese mainland market is still in its infancy.
