Senior officials of China and Kazakhstan have vowed to strengthen their relations in energy, communication, trade and other fields.

Visiting Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan and his Kazakh counterpart Kai'rat Kelim'betov made the pledge at the sixth China-Kazakhstan Cooperation Committee in Astana. During the meeting, Wang called for efforts to expand linkages between the two countries by railway and a trans-continental highway. He said they should increase mutual investment and follow through on existing projects.

Kai'rat Kelim'betov said that he appreciated China's support of his country through the 2008 global financial crisis and during its winning bid to host the 2017 World Expo. Several intergovernmental cooperation agreements on energy, communication and trade were also signed.
