According to the Sandy Hook victims' name list, the victims included eight boys and twelve girls, aged 6 to 7, and six adults, all women, aged 27 to 56. Initial autopsy results showed that all the victims died of gunshot wounds.

27-year-old teacher Victoria Soto gave her life to save her students.

The police report also noted that some people had made efforts before being killed. They tried to stop the gunman's assault or protected students from being shot with their own bodies.

Some reports say 27-year-old teacher Victoria Soto gave her life to save her students. She hid 13 students in the classroom closet, while she herself faced the shooter Adam Lanza and told him the students were not there. Later 6 of the children tried to escape, but they were killed and the 7 who remained survived.

Police confirmed the shooter also killed his mother, Nancy Lanza, who was first reported to have been a teacher at the school, but later proved to have no such connection to Sandy Hook Elementary.
