Santiago, Chile is displaying its festival spirit with the Santiago International Street Theatre Festival. This is a major highlight on Chile's cultural calendar.
This year, the festival opened on Saturday in the capital. It attracted hundreds of Chileans outside the national cathedral, where French theatre group, Compagnie OFF, dazzled spectators with giant giraffes and floating opera singers.
The show started with a floating opera singer and then the real stars made their appearance: nine, giant red giraffes that ambled through the streets of Santiago. This year, the festival will present 89 free performances in public spaces across the city.
