The Kyodo News Agency reports that Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has responded positively after being briefed by the leader of the New Komeito Party, Natsuo Yamaguchi. Yamaguchi recently returned from talks in Beijing with CPC general secretary Xi Jinping.

Abe said he hopes to open the door to dialogue, after Xi Jinping said China will carefully study a possible summit between him and Abe. Yamaguchi told media after his meeting that it was important to continue talks to facilitate a summit between the two leaders.

He also said Abe believed that dialogue was crucial to easing confrontations triggered by the Diaoyu Islands dispute, and hoped more discussions could be held between the two governments in the future.
