China's southern metropolis of Guangzhou has a huge migrant population working in its many factories. On Saturday, the first day of the spring festival travel rush, it handled the departure of more than 130,000 passengers.
Guangzhou usually faces the most travel congestion due to its large migrant worker population.
More than 1,000 trains were sent from all over the country to help people get away from the city.
More than 7,200 square meters of temporary waiting rooms and 2,800 square meters of temporary ticket offices were set up for use on the first day.

Meanwhile, the city's Baiyun international airport saw more than 130,000 passengers board 1,100 flights Saturday to get home.
Discounts of around 40%-50% were available on flights such as Guangzhou to Nanjing in coastal Jiangsu province, Xi'an in Northwest Shaanxi province and Qingdao in eastern Shandong province.
Shipping operators in coastal Fujian province also geared up to cope with increased passenger numbers.
More than 20 people from Taiwan took the first ship Saturday to go home.
Chen Congdan, safety inspector of Fuzhou Maritime Bureau, said, "Passengers should know where the life-saving equipment is located and how to use it, and how to escape if there's an emergency."
Fujian maritime department says more than 170,000 passengers are expected to use the four passenger shipping lines between Fuzhou, and Taiwan.
