The Croods are forced out of their cave and into unknown territory. The world as they know it is coming to an end, setting the scene for Hollywood star Nicolas Cage to channel his inner cave-man.

For Cage, voicing is quite a physical business.

He said, "I'm a pretty physical guy, like if you put me in a box with a microphone and video camera and I'm trying to find a character, the hands are going to start going and the voice."

And for directors Kirk De Micco and Chris Sanders, casting Cage in the film was no easy business either. It proved to be a game of cat and mouse as they chased him across the world.

Emma Stone is the voice behind Grug's teenaged daughter Eep, while Ryan Reynolds and Catherine Keener lend their voices to Guy and Ugga.

Stone says the directors did their part to help her connect with the other actors, especially since she couldn't be in the same booth with them.

She said, "They would always show me, Chris and Kirk would always show me new scenes that had been cut together or I could hear Ryan's voice or Nicolas' voice, and kind of react to that so it felt like they were in the room or on the phone or something.

"The Croods" is scheduled for U-S release on March 22nd. It will hit Asia as early as March 21st in Singapore.
