Today marks the 21st anniversary of the UN's World Water Day, reminding us of the critical condition of water in China.
This year, the UN made "Water Cooperation" the theme of World Water Day.
As water is a shared resource, the theme emphasizes the urgent need to strike a balance between different needs and priorities among users.
China's Water Week starts today and lasts until next Thursday. Currently, China's per capita water use is only 2,100 cubic meters, or 28% of the global average level.
But, water shortages have become a major obstacle for economic development in many parts of China. Meanwhile, China also faces an increasing threat of water pollution. There are nearly one million rural residents still unable to access clean drinking water.
