Xi calls for closer co-op with African nations

Chinese President Xi Jinping has told the leaders of Uganda, Mozambique and Ethiopia that China is ready to boost cooperation with the three African countries. He made the comments during individual meetings with Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, Mozambican President Armando Guebuza and Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn.

Xi Jinping says China attaches importance to cooperation projects in Uganda and stands ready to strengthen mutually beneficial bilateral economic and trade cooperation. Museveni says Uganda cherishes the bilateral friendship and hopes for more China's support and assistance.

During his meeting with Guebuza, President Xi said the China-Mozambique cooperation enjoys a bright future, and the Chinese government encourages China's enterprises to invest in Mozambique's priority areas of development. China is ready to work with the Southern African Development Community in a bid to promote the region's interconnectivity and socio-economic development.

For his part, Guebuza says his country is ready to cooperate with China to deepen bilateral friendly cooperation and advance the integration process of Southern Africa. Mozambique also welcomes more Chinese involvement in the country's development in agriculture, electricity, energy and infrastructure.

At his meeting with Hailemariam, Xi said China is ready to intensify bilateral exchanges on national governance and consolidate practical cooperation to bring tangible benefits to both peoples. He also congratulated Hailemariam on being elected the new chairperson of the African Union. Hailemariam says Ethiopia hopes to expand bilateral cooperation so as to improve the country's infrastructure and promote its socio-economic development.
