China and the Republic of Congo have agreed to develop a comprehensive cooperative partnership based on solidarity and mutual help. The agreement was reached at a meeting between visiting Chinese President Xi Jinping and his counterpart, President Denis Sassou Nguesso.

President Xi Jinping said the two countries had maintained sincere and friendly cooperation and had firmly supported each other on major issues concerning mutual interests.

Xi said he looked forward to lifting bilateral ties to a new level and stressed China's willingness to continue to support the economic development of the Republic of Congo.

President Denis Sassou Nguesso noted that relations between the two countries had made remarkable progress and that cooperation had gone from strength to strength since the two countries set up diplomatic relations 49 years ago. He said the Republic of Congo hoped China would play more important role in promoting African peace, stability and development.
