It appears that dressing up in tights really can bring you superpowers--at least at the MTV Movie Awards, where categories such as best fight, best kiss and best shirtless performance certainly keep things interesting.

The marvel blockbuster "The Avengers" has conquered the competition, to become the big winner of the night.

Samuel L Jackson, Tom Hiddleston, Joss Whedon and Chris Evans with the award for best fight for The Avengers.

The sci-fi action romp sweeps three awards, including the top prize -- for movie of the year.

Joss Whedon, writer/director of "The Avengers," said, "What's the opposite of humbled? We're Biebered to be standing here. This is the award that means the most to me. I am so grateful and very excited for 2015, we're going to bring you 'Avengers 2."

The superhero slugfest also wins awards for best fight sequence and best villain, played by actor Tom Hiddleston.

Bradley Cooper and host Rebel Wilson are both double winners. Cooper wins the first prize of the night for his performance in "Silver Linings Playbook", and returns to the stage to snatch the award for best smooch, which he had dutifully carried out with co-star Jennifer Lawrence.

Bradley Cooper, actor in "Silver Linings Playbook," said, "There's no way that this movie could have a life without you fans...this movie did what it did."

Wilson, who opens and closes the show decked out in Iron Man-style armor, wins for breakthrough performance in "Pitch Perfect", and shares in the cast award for best musical moment.

Jamie Foxx takes two, as well. He shares the best What-the-F moment award with Samuel L. Jackson, earned from their scenes together in "Django Unchained".

Jamie Foxx, actor in "Django Unchained," said, "I want to thank Samuel L. Jackson for being the best actor in the whole world. Incredible."

Samuel l. Jackson, actor in "Django Unchained," said, "This is awesome. Thank you for encouraging me to be as crazy as I was and thank you all, the writers producers and Quentin, you guys."

"Twilight" heartthrob Taylor Lautner wins the award for best shirtless performance. Anyone who has seen the films knows he has worked hard for it.

The Trailblazer Award goes to Emma Watson, the star of Sofia Coppola's "The Bling Ring".

Emma Watson, actress in "The Bling Ring," said, "If you truly pour your heart in what you really believe in, even if it makes you vulnerable, amazing things can and will happen."

Irreverent and fun, the MTV Movie Awards are as much about anticipated summer movies as they are about last year's best.

This year, the show was moved up from June to April to incorporate the entire blockbuster season, which begins in early May.
