China’s seismological bureau says nearly 850 aftershocks had been recorded as of 12:40 a.m. on Sunday. A total of 160 people have been killed in southwest China’s Sichuan province.

Among them, Ya'an city has reported 145 deaths, 6,700 injured, 500 of which are in critical condition. 100 of these deaths occurred in Lushan county, 22 in Baoxing county, 15 in Yucheng District, and 4 in Tianquan county. Chengdu city, capital of Sichuan province, has reported a death toll of eight. There are also reports of deaths in other cities.

Traffic and communication in Baoxing county were totally cut off after the quake happened, but have now been restored. Major national and provincial roads were blocked due to collapses caused by quakes.

At the same time, seven power supply lines in Ya’an city have been cut off, and rescue work is still going on. The quake also destroyed major transformers in Tianquan and other neighboring counties.
