More than a million people in Lushan County have spent their first night since the quake outdoors after their homes were toppled by the strong earthquake.

Twelve minutes after the tremor, local PLA soldiers arrived at the worst hit area of Lushan County. They raced against time to evacuate the affected people, while others set up tents.

Eleven hours later, about 60 tents had been set up in the Lushan County Stadium, which are capable of accommodating a thousand people.

Feng Yanhai, a soldier, said, "We brought some cotton quilts for the earthquake victims. Some people also took cotton quilts from their houses. We have two electric power generators. one is from our forces, the other was offered by a local power company."

Tents with electricity and food supplies are protecting a thousand people from the cold.

An earthquake victim said, "We lost everything, every piece of furniture. Our house was completely destroyed. We can’t go anywhere as our children are too small to stay outside. It is windy outside, but we feel warm inside the tent."

In the badly-stricken town of Longmeng, local residents are receiving medical treatment in their tents along with food and water.

Medical staff from Longmen Town, said, "We are from the Longmen Town Health Center. We brought a lot of medicine and medical equipment, we can bind the wounds and carry out simple treatments."

Locals are predicting rain, which although uncomfortable, is the least of the worries for earthquake victims at this point. Medical staff in the town of Longmen have pledged to work through the rain to help those in need.
