US, South Korea move to strengthen military ties

The United States and South Korea have agreed to maintain a deterrent posture towards the DPRK and strengthen the 60 year old security alliance between the two countries. The announcement was made by US President Barack Obama during a joint press conference with visiting South Korea President Park Geun-hye.

Barack Obama, US President, said, "US and South Korea will strengthen the security alliance.....North Korea is more isolated than ever."

Park is also scheduled to deliver a speech at a joint session of the Senate and the House of Representatives. She is heading a 51-member business delegation, including the heads of the country's five major industrial conglomerates, including Samsung, Hyundai and LG.

They will attend an official dinner commemorating the 60th anniversary of the military alliance between the two countries, and a meeting with their US counterparts that will focus on ways to expand economic cooperation between South Korea and the United States.
