Over 60 bands from home and abroad took to the stage in Shanghai at the weekend. This is the third year running that the city has hosted the MIDI Music Festival, which has become China's largest live music event.

French indie rock band "The Agency" made its Shanghai debut at the festival this weekend. The band has played dozens of cities across Europe. But its lead singer says the band was surprised by the audience in Shanghai.

"Great feeling because the crowd was very responding and the atmosphere is very good here. It's about being sincere and exact as possible. Just by working and you can get out the right music. Doing what kind of music reflects what's in your mind," lead singer of "The Agency" Francois Blet said.

"This year's MIDI Music Festival has added a third stage. Instead of a variety of music styles found at some other music festivals, MIDI has always stuck with rock music. Organizers say nurturing more mature bands has always been their goal, and that's why they've been doing it for 14 years," CCTV reporter Song Wenjing said.

"After all these years we've been able to make a little profit. But that's still far from enough. Things like stage setting and audience services like food and drinks are also key to attracting more people,” deputy GM of Midi Music Festival Shan Wei said.

"I think we're making progress every day. We're stronger than last year. We're more mature than last year. I think we'll keep on going," lead singer of “Mercy & SorroW" Hua Luodan said.

Nearly 40,000 fans took in shows over the weekend- the biggest turnout since the festival arrived in Shanghai in 2010.
