The European Commission has told China it is preparing an investigation into alleged anti-competitive behaviours by Chinese cellphone makers. Although it didn't name any specific Chinese companies, officials from the European Commission reportedly said the two Chinese companies were ZTE and Huawei. Meanwhile, a spokesman from China's Commerce Ministry responded to the EU's potential probe into China's mobile makers.
"The European side made the decision without negotiating with China. This makes Chinese people doubt Europe's sincerity in resolving the issue through negotiations. China will persist in cooperation with Europe in the area of communications and in an open market in the area. Europe's market share in China is higher than Chinese companies' market share in Europe. Many European enterprises also disagree with the Europe Union's antidumping and countervailing duties over China's communications enterprises. China will take strong measures to safeguard its rights, any consequences should be paid for by the EU side," Shen Danyang, Spokesman of Chinese Commerce Ministry, said.
