President Xi Jinping has called for more exchanges between the legislative bodies of China and Trinidad and Tobago. This came during his meeting with the parliamentary leaders of the Caribbean nation, Senate President Timothy Hamel-Smith and Speaker of House of Representatives Wade Mark.

Xi Jinping said legislative exchanges can enhance understanding, consolidate public support for the development of ties, and promote friendly cooperation between the two countries. The Chinese president praised the achievements that Trinidad and Tobago has achieved in social, economic and ecological development.

Hamel-Smith and Mark visited China last year. They said this helped them better understand the country's development path and governing methods. They said Trinidad and Tobago supports the Chinese people in pursuing their Chinese dream, and expressed the hope for more, regular legislative exchanges.
