Chinese President Xi Jinping is on a state visit in Costa Rica. He's met his counterpart Laura Chinchilla in San Jose. The two leaders exchanged views on the development of bilateral ties.

Xi Jinping attended a welcoming ceremony hosted by Chinchilla before they started talks. The two leaders are scheduled to witness the signing of cooperation deals following their talks. Earlier in the week, Chinchilla said her country is looking for agreements in areas of clean energy, public transport and student exchange.

Diplomatic ties between China and Costa Rica were established in 2007. And since that time, two-way trade has grown by 120 percent, topping 6 billion US dollars last year.
