"Star Trek Into Darkness" hit screens in the Chinese mainland last week. The film raked in a cool 4 million US dollars on its opening day alone, and 26 million in the first week. The star of BBC series "Sherlock", Benedict Cumberbatch, steps into the role of the villain in the new film.

Benedict Cumberbatch is known for playing good guys. But this time around, he plays the villain Khan in the latest Star Trek instalment.

Sherlock Holmes is a Victorianesque character that has been portrayed countless times before on stage and screen. But despite this pressure, Cumberbatch has brought a contemporary life to the role of Sherlock Holmes, for which he has been nominated for a BAFTA, an Emmy and a Golden Globe.

Cumberbatch made his acting debut in school plays and was regarded by his teacher as the best schoolboy actor he had ever worked with. His other acting credits include science genius Stephen Hawking and artist Vincent Van Gogh.
