A new art exhibition in the city's Times Square is featuring some buildings that you may think have been made by children. "The Art of the Brick" features depictions of sculptures and iconic paintings- all made entirely out of LEGO.

It seems that playing with LEGO is not just for kids.

New-York artist Nathan Sawaya's love of the plastic bricks has resulted in some impressive sculptures.

One features a swimming scene, while another depicts an Egyptian "Nefertiti" bust.

And there's also a 6 meter T-Rex dinosaur skeleton made from over 80-thousand bricks. It is one of the largest pieces ever made by Sawaya.

Nathan Sawaya, an artist, said, "I'd sculpted out of more traditional media over the years - things like clay and wire. But one day I just thought, 'What about this toy from my childhood?' Could I create large-scale sculptures using just LEGO bricks."

Visitors young and older are enjoying the exhibition. But particularly the children.

Eliana Katzin, a visitor said, "It's just really cool seeing all of the LEGOs, how he put them, because most of the LEGO bricks are very small, so it's cool to see them in big pieces."

Sawaya is hoping that his work will inspire children to think outside the box and try new things.

"You can build what's not on the front of the box - what's in your imagination. And that's what this exhibition is about - hopefully inspiring kids to create whatever they can imagine," Nathan Sawaya said.

In addition to the large human and animal figures, there are also LEGO-based recreations of historic painting including Van Gogh's "Starry Night" and Edvard Munch's "The Scream". "The Art of the Brick" runs until January 2014.
