WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has said that Edward Snowden is safe and healthy and in touch with the Wikileaks legal team. Wikileaks also said that Snowden had been supplied with refugee documents issued by the Ecuadorian government. Assange however clarified that the documents didn't imply that Snowden has been granted asylum by Ecuador.

Earlier, it emerged that Snowden hadn't taken the flight to Cuba he was booked on from Moscow. Aeroflot Flight SU150 departed from Moscow at 2:45 p.m. local time for Havana, Cuba, but Edward Snowden wasn't on-board.

The Russian media have reported that he intends to fly to Caracas in Venezuela, from where he will leave for his final destination in Ecuador. The US has asked Cuba, Venezuela and Ecuador not to provide sanctuary for him.
