Heavy rainfall and hail has been battering large parts of China. Nine provinces and including Hebei, Jilin and Sichuan are all being affected by secondary disasters including flooding and landslides. Up to Monday afternoon, the disaster has left 34 people dead and 12 missing.

Meanwhile, tropical storm Rumbia is set to make landfall on coastal areas in south China's Guangdong and Hainan provinces on Monday night or Tuesday morning. China's Central Meteorological Bureau has issued a yellow alert to warn residents in the area.

Local authorities have been asked to prepare for the storm, enhance monitoring, issue early warnings, evacuate residents in threatened areas and call fishing boats back to port.
