China's ZTE is one example of thriving Sino-US investments. It relies heavily on the US market for revenues. In an interview with CCTV reporter Yin Hang, He Shiyou, Executive Vice President of ZTE Corporation, the world's fifth largest mobile phone maker, says ZTE is confident to become the world's third largest smart phone supplier by 2015, just two years from now on, and stands ready to fight rising trade protectionism.

"Through 15 years of development, ZTE's mobile phones have enter the markets of more than 100 countries. Over 65 percent of our profits come from overseas markets. In particular, from developed markets such as the US, Europe, Australia, and Japan. Our markets in the Asia-Pacific, Latin America and Africa are also developing very well. The US market, second only to the Chinese market, has contributed to more than 25 percent of our profits. In 2012, ZTE's global market share reached around 3.8 percent. Our global shipments last year surpassed 65 million units. ZTE's mobile phone supply ranks fourth in the world, and our smartphone supply ranks fifth in the world. We aim to boost our market share to become the third largest in three years time." He Shiyou said.

"We need to improve our product structure. We used to dominate the market of low-and-mid-end products. We want to move our products to higher-end. So in quantity, there won't be too many changes. But we're expecting that our profits can be expanded by raising our product quality. Meanwhile, we also hope to strengthen our sales channel in major markets. The gap between the top four mobile phone makers is not as big as we are expecting right now. So the timing is important." He Shiyou said.

"We've seen many news reports on that. But ZTE mobile has not yet received any formal documents from the EU, claiming that our mobile products are involved in any anti-dumping and anti-subsidy cases. If we get any, ZTE will actively respond to these claims together with the Chinese ministry of commerce. Previously, the EU had some doubts on digital card products from China. We have acquired enough experience to properly handle these issues. But in terms of our mobile phone products, similar investigations launched against our products are very few, thanks to our close cooperation with local parts makers. Actually, during our years of development, we've acquired more than 40-thousand patents and other intellectual property rights. That's why our development in the US can be so fast and smooth. But we are fully prepared that we might bump into more trade protectionism and IPR cases as our reputation and influence is growing." He Shiyou said.
