Sun Yang is expected to be the stand out performer in China's squad for the 2013 FINA World Aquatics Championships in Barcelona. He's expected to win several golds at the tournament and to at least duplicate his success at last year Olympics when he won two golds.

Sun Yang is expected to be the stand out performer in China's squad for the 2013 FINA World Aquatics Championships in Barcelona.

One year after the 2012 Olympics, China leave for the World Championships, looking to be head and shoulders above the rest in the pool again. 27 of these swimmers have the experience of being part of London, and Sun Yang will compete in the 400-meters, 800-meters and 1500-meters freestyles at Barcelona, and carries the hope of winning golds for China.

"I will try my best to compete, no matter who I am, a national champion or an Olympic champion. Needless to say, now I have more responsibilities on my shoulders. I'm expected to contribute more for the men's team. I'll continue working hard," said Sun Yang.

Sun's been struggling with poor form since he shot to fame following the London Games. There was a rift between the 21-year-old and his coach Zhu Zhigen. But that now seems to be behind Sun, and he's ready to shine on the world stage again.

"I want to prove myself because I think I have the ability to win. I want to show my best performance to the people around me. I also want to pay back the people who've been helping me through the difficult times." Sun said.

Also leaving for Spain were London Olympic champions, Ye Shiwen and Jiao Liuyang. China won three golds at the 2003 World Championships in Barcelona, and is expected to make history with their best ever haul in the pool this time around.
