In this digital age, vinyl records may seem archaic. But it turns out that people are still nostalgic for vintage records. In New York, vinyl fans are flocking into the Public Library, which is now unloading a huge trove of vinyl albums.

For vintage music fans, this is what paradise looks like. At New York City's Lincoln Center, shoppers swarm over boxes of LPs donated to the New York Public Library. Most are classical recordings, but jazz, show tunes and other genres are represented.

All the records cost one US dollar, even boxed sets - a real bargain.

"There's something unique about the crackles and pops of vinyl, it adds some type of texture to the music that you can't get from a digital format," a customer said.

Up to 22,000 records were up for grabs in the three-day sale starting Thursday.

Collection curator Jonathan Hiam at New York Public Library said, "They're duplicate holdings so we have at least one copy of these records in our collection available for public access. We find the space these duplicates have taken up is much more needed to bring in new materials, unique materials."

According to the curators, proceeds from the sale will go towards preserving the library's collection as well as new acquisitions.
