China's first aircraft carrier, the Liaoning is on its third voyage this year to conduct scientific experiments and routine training.

The vessel set sail from Qingdao on China's eastern coast Thursday. It is expected to conduct flight-landing exercises as well as test equipment on board.

The Liaoning has been based in Qingdao since February. In June and July, it successfully conducted a round of sea trials.
