Recent torrential downpours in south China’s Guangdong Province have killed at least 18 people, and 5 others are still missing.

Floods have come to most parts of the province, affecting more than 4 million people and forcing 500,000 people to evacuate. Torrential rain caused by typhoon Utor as well as monsoons from the South China Sea are the heaviest in 60 years.

Local villagers have been trapped by floods and electricity and communications were cut in some regions. Local governments have made emergency response efforts. As the rains ease, the provincial authorities have downgraded the flood warning level.
