Known as the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, it takes place across three weeks each August, attracting performers from all over the world. And with only a few days left until this year's festival ends.

Known as the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, it takes place across three weeks each August, attracting performers from all over the world.

It's the world's largest arts festival, with over 2,800 shows and 24,000 performers across 273 venues.

Thousands from across the world have descended on Edinburgh's streets. Here to soak up the atmosphere.

But choosing between shows may be a daunting task. Every possible venue in the city is playing host to an exhilarating line up, from comedy, dance, theatre, music and much more.

"We've had shows from 45 countries. The largest number of shows are from China, the United States, Australia and Italy. They come here as they want to be exposed to the International Stage available here. Also been seen by over 1200 arts industry professionals around the world who come here to book shows to take back with them to their own theatre festivals and events," said Neil Mackinnon, Head of External Affairs from Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

China has a strong presence this year, with 19 shows, including Yi Dong who is performing here for the 12th year.

"I really find playing in Edinburgh in the summer really exciting. We have so many wonderful shows from all parts of the world here. They are so diverse and so creative. Being a part of this, representing China and Chinese culture is very interesting," said Yi Dong, Director of Academy of Chinese National Musical Instruments.

While many pay to see their favorite acts. There are over 700 free shows. Artists however need to compete for audiences. Many take to the streets to gain audiences.

We met the Assassins musical group doing this. Here in Edinburgh for the 2nd time - they say this year is better than last.

"Last year we didn't sell well at all. We had audiences of about 10 people most nights but this year, we are more established here. We are selling out a lot of nights, all but two of our nights were sold out. So it's been a completely different experience."

Every year the fringe brings in over £140 million to Edinburgh and Scotland according to a recent study done by the Edinburgh festivals. And judging by the crowds around me this year's festival continues to draw in the numbers.
