Aftershocks have continued after a 5.9 magnitude earthquake jolted southwest China. The tremors have caused landslides which have blocked the state highway, and damaged vehicles passing by.

The quake, located at a depth of 10 kilometers, hit the counties of Shangri-La and Deqin in Yunnan, and Derong County in Sichuan on Saturday morning.

Local rescue headquarters say the earthquake has affected more than 75,000 residents, and nearly 20 thousand houses have been damaged.

Meanwhile, electricity in most of the quake-hit areas has been recovered. To cope with the aftermath, civil affairs departments at all levels have allocated relief materials, including thousands of tents, quilts and clothes.

Emergency teams are now working to clear the blocked roads and set up more shelters.
