For three years in a row, Beijing's worst traffic of the year has been in September. And this year is no exception.

Beijing's roads more congested in September.

The start of this week coincided with a new school year. And on Monday morning, Beijing's main roads were packed with cars, with traffic around schools especially congested. The morning traffic peak came at half past six - an hour earlier than usual.

Extra traffic police were on duty to manage the congestion. The city's traffic authorities have advised citizens to take public transport. They also warn that even worse traffic is expected towards the end of this month.
