Detained Chinese cruise liner departs Jeju Island

The Chinese Consulate General in Jeju Island has confirmed that the detained Chinese cruise liner Henna has left the island for China after posting a bond to the Jeju court.

The detained Chinese cruise liner Henna departed from South Korea's Jeju Island for China at 8:30 p.m. local time on Monday with the rest of more than 50 passengers on board, according to the Chinese Consulate General in Jeju Island. The Henna is expected to arrive in Tianjin on Wednesday morning. HNA Tourism, the Beijing-based operator of the vessel, posted a bond of 2.8 million US dollars for the release of the ship. All the 1,659 passengers have left Jeju.

Every passenger agreeing to take a chartered plane has signed an agreement with HNA to accept a compensation of around 327 US dollars or a free ticket for Henna within one year. The ship was scheduled to sail from Jeju to Incheon on Friday.

It was detained after the Jeju court received a seizure application on claims of legal disputes, from a subsidiary company of Jiangsu Shagang Group Corporation.
