Turkish Defence Minister Ismet Yilmaz has dismissed concerns from NATO and the US over Turkey’s decision to co-produce a missile defence system with a Chinese firm.
Turkey decided to award the contract to China Precision Machinery Import and Export Corporation’s FD-2000 missile defence system last month. NATO and the US say the Chinese missile defense system would not be compatible with those of Turkey’s allies.
The Turkish Defence Minister says the compatibility issue is not a problem technically, and China’s offer has met Turkey’s main demands of price and the ability to place much of the production in Turkey.
