Around four hundred protesters have staged a demonstration outside the headquarters of the American Broadcasting Company, demanding a formal apology over comedian Jimmy Kimmel's recent offensive skit.

Chinese Americans and students attend a protest against the "kill everyone in China" skit on Jimmy Kimmel's talk show on the ABC network in front of the ABC's building in Houston, the United States, Nov. 1, 2013.

Protesters including Chinese Americans, students and visiting scholars, chanted and held signs, saying, "ABC should stop teaching kids killing", "No more racial hatred" and "Fire Jimmy Kimmel".

The protesters said they want Jimmy Kimmel to be fired and said there should be no tolerance for any kind of discrimination towards Chinese people. They have also given a petition to ABC, demanding a "formal, open and meaningful apology".

In the midst of the government shutdown, Kimmel sat at a "kids' table", during which a kid suggested "killing everyone in China" to solve the US debt issue. Many protesters argue that the problem was not the child's comment, but that Kimmel did not challenge it.

"We want to tell them this is wrong. It is not only an example of racial discrimination, but also hatred, a hatred toward Chinese. That is what angers us. This way of educating the next generations will only have a negative influence. We want to end the spread of such hatred," protest organizer Wang Jian said.

"He is disrespectful for doing that. He should get fired for what he said. That's why I support you guys on this. You are doing the right thing. Hopefully they get the message right here in front of the ABC studio," Chicago resident said.
