The director of the US National Security Agency, Keith Alexander, says whistleblower Edward Snowden has leaked as many as 200 thousand classified documents to the media.

Alexander says the way the documents are being leaked is designed to cause maximum damage to the NSA and the US. US officials have already admitted Snowden had access to hundreds of thousands of classified documents, as an NSA systems operator.

Investigators say they know the range of documents Snowden had access to, but they remain unsure what he’s actually downloaded. Many NSA documents leaked by Snowden are marked "Top Secret", or with an even more restrictive "Special Intelligence" stamp.

The material includes highly technical details about US and allied eavesdropping activities.
