She's been compared to Peggy Lee and Astrud Gilberto and worked with some of the most respected composers of our time. Almost three decades after she started her musical career, Dutch singer Laura Fygi is more popular than ever. After numerous visits to China, the singer held her first Beijing concert on Saturday evening. Julian Waghann caught up with her.

An unmistakable voice, able to sing in English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, and Chinese, her albums are sold in over 30 countries.

Laura Fygi's unique style owes much to a unique upbringing by her Dutch father and Egyptian belly-dancer mother. She spent many years of her childhood in Uruguay before moving back to Holland.

In 1991, she released her first solo album called "Introducing" which launched her career as a jazz singer.

Laura first came into the spotlight as a vocalist in popular Dutch girlband "Centerfold". Touting sexy lingerie, the group had many hits in the Netherlands and Europe and are often remembered for their song "Dictator".

Following a record deal with Gold Typhoon, one of China's largest record companies, Laura released her first Chinese-themed album entitled "Flower" in 2012. While all of the songs are Chinese in origin, they were carefully rearranged by Laura herself to give it the characteristic "Fygi" sound. And four were actually sung in Chinese.

Laura Fygi will be greeting more of her fans at various cities throughout China until December 16 before wrapping up her Asian tour in Japan on December 26.
