Yemen's parliament has voted for a ban on US drones in the country. The decision comes after dozens of civilians were killed a few days ago by the unmanned aircraft.

According to official state media, parliament stressed the importance of protecting innocent citizens from airstrikes as well as preserving Yemen's sovereignty. Thousands have staged several rallies this year to demand an end to the drone attacks. Parliament debated the ban after a US drone attacked a wedding convoy in the country's southeastern province of al- Bayda on Thursday.

Up to 17 civilians were killed and 21 others wounded. It was the second airstrike mistake in a week. On Monday, a US drone killed at least four people traveling on a road in the eastern province of Hadramout.
