James Cameron has announced he will be returning to his smash hit "Avatar" to film three sequels. The film about the blue inhabitants of Pandora is the highest-grossing film in history.
The director made the announcement on Monday in the capital Wellington with producer Jon Landau and Prime Minister John Key. "Avatar" won three Academy Awards, with international box office takings totally nearly 2.8 billion US dollars in 2009.
Cameron says he plans to complete principal shooting on the movies all at the same time, beginning in 2015. He says he aims to release the first sequel in time for Christmas 2016 and the following films in late 2017 and late 2018. Cameron says work has already begun on the writing and design of the movies.
