At least 15 people have been killed after a female suicide bomber struck a railway station in southern Russia.

The explosion occurred at noon in Volgograd, a city near the volatile North Caucasus region.
A spokesman for the nation's Investigative Committee said the suicide bomber detonated her explosives in front of a metal detector. The bomb contained about 10 kilograms of explosives and was rigged with shrapnel.
Russia's Health Ministry says about 50 people were injured and 34 have been hospitalized, many in serious condition.
Officials say the railway station's security system averted greater casualties by preventing the suicide bomber from entering the waiting room.
The Volgograd government has announced three days of mourning starting January 1st.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has instructed the government to take all necessary measures to assist those wounded and to ensure security.
