The DPRK says it will hold elections for the country's parliament in March, the first such polls under Kim Jong Un's leadership.

The official Korean Central News Agency said on Wednesday that the election for its Supreme People's Assembly would be held on March 9th. DPRK usually holds parliamentary elections every five years. The current members of the assembly were elected in March 2009. This year's election will be the first since Kim took office after the death of his father Kim Jong Il in 2011.

The Supreme People's Assembly, or parliament, is officially the country's highest body of sovereign power that can revise the constitution, approve the budget and appointment of top officials.
