In the last hour or so French investigators have been telling us what they know, so far, about why Micheal Schumacher crashed in a skiing accident.

They've checked the camera on the German's helmet it shows he was going at the speed of "a very good skier" and he was nine metres off-piste.

The forty-five year old remains in a medically induced coma fighting for his life in a French hospital. The man leading the investigation says there is much more to piece together before they can be sure what happened.

"This material was seized in the framework of an inquiry, and was given to a specialized service which is dealing with its expertise, the ENSA, National school of skiing, located in Chamonix. We will get the results of this expertise within a few days. But we already have some indications. The Commander can offer more details," prosecutor Patrick Quincy says.

"The skis are in perfect shape, almost new. The accident was not provoked because of the skis, as the bindings are not damaged. However, as the prosecutor mentioned, we found some marks which corroborate our observations: the skis have hit rocks," commander Stephane Bozon says.
