French duo Daft Punk and New Zealand teen singer Lorde led the pack taking home the top awards. Renowned Chinese pianist Lang Lang, who will be right here performing for the CCTV Gala on Thursday night, also gave a memorable performance.

Chinese star pianist Lang Lang gave a genre-bending performance at Sunday night’s Grammy Awards ceremony in LA. The star performed with heavy metal band Metallica.

Quirky robotic duo, Daft Punk, scored the evening’s coveted double win taking home album of the year for "Random Access Memories," and record of the year with the summer dance hit "Get Lucky," featuring Pharrell Williams and Nile Rodgers.

"On the behalf of the robots, I would just like to say, first of all, man. Thank you, thank you, thank you, in this category there’s a lot of great nominees, and we’re honoured to be considered here and thank you to the Academy, of course, they want to thank their families," singer-songwriter Pharrell Williams said.

Lorde won the Grammy for song of the year with her breakout hit "Royals," sharing the award for song writing with Joel Little.

"This is the one thing that I did not expect the most about tonight, so thank you so much, I think mostly, to Bruno, to Sarah, to Katy, to Justin, I have been so inspired by all of your vocal work at some point in my life, so thank you. Thank you so much," singer Lorde said.

Seattle-based rapper-producer Macklemore & Ryan Lewis snatched the Grammy for best new artist and best rap performance.

"And I want to say, we made this album without a record label, we made it independently, and we appreciate all the support," Macklemore said.

Bruno Mars, set to perform at next Sunday’s Super Bowl, won one Grammy, for best pop vocal album, for "Unorthodox Jukebox."

"I want to dedicate this award to my mother - Ma, I know you’re watching, I hope you’re smiling, I love you. Thank you guys so much," singer Bruno Mars said.

The biggest winner of the night was Daft Punk who snatched 5 awards. Paul Willams, who worked with the duo, described how the collaboration came about.

"You know, back when I was drinking, I used to imagine things that weren’t there that were frightening, and then I got sober and two robots called me and asked me to make an album," Paul Williams said.

The 56th Grammy Awards is the music industry’s top honours. The Recording Academy give awards in 82 categories- but many remember it more for its performances and unscripted moments than the awards themselves.
