Egypt's ousted president Mohamed Morsi has appeared in court again. He and his fourteen co-accused face charges relating to the killing of protesters in December 2012. For the first time on Saturday, Morsi was represented by a team of defense lawyers. He also appeared much calmer and cooperative than in previous court appearances.

Security sources said Morsi was more less stubborn this time round. He cooperated as he was led into the Chopper from Alexandria to the Police Academy for his trial. Once in the dock however, he turned his back on the judges, refusing to recognise the Court.

During the trial the prosecution produced video evidence of the December 2012 incident allegedly showing Morsi's supporters attacking protesters.

"This is the first trial Morsi was represented by a lawyer...his defense team dismissed the charges and the evidence as illegitimate. They said Morsi cannot be tried in a criminal court given his status as a former President." Trial journalist Tharwat Shalaby said.

It was calm for the better part of the trial here at the police academy....

Trouble however erupted when some, presumably pro Sisi supporters spotted Morsi's defense team. They attacked this team, accusing it of betraying the Country.

"We don't want anyone to defend the terrorists. They attacked us and killed us. I was injured in the protest Morsi is facing trial for. So these lawyers are defending terrorism."

"Any lawyer who will defend them we will not pass here peacefully, we will wait for them here. These ladies here will hit them with sand."

Morsi's lawyers were furious at the security forces failure to come to their rescue ...and some yelled at the police.

"This is crime not just against us, but against the police , you should not allow these people to stand here and this is a matter that will have consequences." Said Selim El Awa, Morsi defense lawyer.

The defense team requested that the sound proof glass be removed from Morsi's cage but upon inspecting the facility personally, the Judge was satisfied that the former President could be heard clearly. They were first installed when Morsi, in a previous court appearance rallied his supporters behind him.
