China has accused Japan and the US of irresponsibility and rumor mongering, over reports that it’s setting up a new Air Defense Identification Zone over the South China Sea. Japanese and US officials are said to have discussed the issue, and say a South China Sea ADIZ would be a "provocative move" by China. But China’s Foreign Ministry says Japan and the US have reached conclusions without any verification.

"The Japanese right-wing forces spread a series of rumours about the South China Sea, aiming to divert attention and hide their shift to the right. People should be fully aware of their motives. US officials, not having confirmed the details, made groundless accusations against China, an act that was extremely irresponsible. We hope they will do more to maintain the sound and steady development of China-US relations," said Hong Lei, spokesman of Chinese Foreign Ministry.
