Disney have turned another of their hit musical movies into a Broadway show. Based on the 1992 animated film of the same name, "Aladdin" will start previews on Broadway this week.

Adapted from the Disney film and centuries-old folktales including "One Thousand and One Nights," "Aladdin" has been brought to fresh theatrical life in a new musical.

James Monroe Iglehart spoke of the journey and the pressure of stepping into the role originally made famous by the voice of Robin Williams.

"When I first heard about it I was terrified because I'm a huge fan of Robin Williams...when I heard that they wanted to do more of the late, great Howard Ashman's original vision of the genie being like a Cab Calloway, Fats Waller type character, I was like, you know what, that I can do. I can't recreate somebody else's performance, but I can do," Iglehart said.

Courtney Reed fulfilled her fantasy of playing a Disney princess, but she felt the choices were limited.

"I really identified with Princess Jasmine," Reed said. "I've been watching the princess movies - all of the princess movies over and over again. Jasmine was the first one I really thought that I could connect with because she was like me. She looked like me."

The title character is played by Adam Jacobs. He feels the story differs from other Disney movies.

"This is the first show where a boy is at the center. For me growing up watching that, I was like he's the coolest Disney character ever. He gets to run away from guards, and get the girl in the end, obviously. As a young boy watching that, I thought I wanna be like that. I want to be like Aladdin," Jacobs said.

Jacobs also likes that Aladdin is rough around the edges - and that makes him not only real, but also inspirational. Aladdin's journey sweeps audiences into an exotic world of adventure, comedy and timeless romance.

The new production features a full score, including the songs from the Academy Award-winning soundtrack by Alan Menken and the late Howard Ashman.
